ROAMBACK / THE DETAILS

Privacy policy

Your life stays yours. Here is how Roamback handles your journal, permissions, backups, and the small amount of information involved in visiting this website or contacting us.

Your app journal stays on your iPhone. We do not collect it, sell it, or send it to cloud AI. You choose what to back up and what to share.

1. The short version

Roamback is a private iPhone journal. We do not receive your location history, journal entries, photo library, imported history, or Roamie progress. The app has no Roamback account system, advertising SDKs, app analytics, or cloud AI service.

This policy covers the Roamback app, roamback.com, and messages sent to our support address. “We” refers to the team providing Roamback. You can contact us at hello@roamback.com.

2. What the app uses on your device

Depending on the permissions and features you enable, Roamback processes:

  • Location and motion: coordinates, timestamps, movement and activity information to record routes, visits, distances, and trips. Background location permission enables recording when the app is not open.
  • Photos: photo-library identifiers, dates, location metadata, and selected images to connect photos to memories and create stories. Photo originals are not copied into the journal database, edited, or deleted by Roamback. Story exports can create new images or videos when you choose to save them.
  • Journal and preferences: place names, inferred home and work locations, trip details, corrections, imported records, your chosen display name, Roamie customization, and app settings.
  • Notifications and Live Activities: local reminders and journey information displayed on your device when you enable the relevant features.
  • Optional on-device intelligence: supported Apple system models can interpret journal information on the device. Roamback does not send it to a cloud AI provider.

These details are processed to provide the app features you request. They remain in local app storage unless you choose a backup, export, or share action, or use an Apple service described below.

3. Apple services, backups, and sharing

Apple Maps. The app uses Apple Maps for map imagery and place lookup. Map and search requests may include coordinates or search areas so Apple can return the appropriate map or place. Apple processes those requests under its own privacy policy. Local journal storage does not mean every Apple Maps request is offline.

Photos and iCloud. If an original photo is held in iCloud Photos, accessing it may involve Apple’s photo service. If you choose a backup folder in iCloud Drive or another Files provider, that provider stores and syncs the backup under its own terms. Roamback does not operate that storage service and cannot retrieve your backup for you.

Backups and exports. A journal backup can contain sensitive location history and preferences. Choose its destination carefully. Automatic backups run after you select a folder and enable the feature. Roamback keeps a latest and previous backup in that folder; manual exports may create additional copies.

Sharing. When you save or share a story, only the content you select is passed to the destination you choose, such as Photos, the system share sheet, or Instagram. That destination’s privacy rules apply. Roamback does not receive your social media credentials.

4. Visiting roamback.com

This website serves static pages, app screenshots, and locally hosted fonts. It does not include advertising pixels, third-party embedded media, or visitor analytics scripts. We do not set analytics or marketing cookies.

The website is intended to be hosted on Vercel. When you visit, the hosting provider necessarily processes technical request information such as your IP address, browser information, requested URL, and request time to deliver the site and maintain security and reliability. This is separate from your app journal. The provider’s operational logs and retention are governed by its service settings and privacy policy.

The “Get launch updates” button opens your email app. There is no hidden signup form or automatic subscription. We receive a message only if you choose to send it.

5. Support and launch updates

If you email hello@roamback.com, we receive your email address and the information you include. We use it to reply, address your request, and provide launch updates if you ask for them. Please send only the details needed for your question; we do not need your full location history.

We retain correspondence for as long as it is reasonably needed to handle your request and maintain relevant support records, then delete or anonymize it when it is no longer needed, subject to applicable legal obligations. Our email provider processes messages to deliver and store them on our behalf. You can ask us to delete correspondence or stop launch updates at any time.

Where applicable law requires a legal basis, we process support information to respond to your request and operate our service, and send optional launch updates based on your request or consent. You can withdraw that consent by emailing us.

6. Your choices and rights

  • Permissions: manage location, motion, photos, and notifications in iOS Settings. Limiting permissions may limit the corresponding app feature.
  • Recording: pause recording, adjust detail, and configure supported privacy zones in the app.
  • Your journal: correct information, export a backup, and follow our data deletion instructions to use the app’s deletion controls. Removing the app removes its local app storage; independently saved exports and backups may remain.
  • Your backups: stop automatic backups or forget the backup folder in the app. Delete existing backup files separately in Files or with your chosen storage provider.
  • Your emails: contact us to request access, correction, deletion, or to stop updates.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to processing, receive a portable copy, withdraw consent, or complain to a data protection authority. Contact us to exercise rights relating to information we hold. Because your app journal stays on your device, we cannot access, export, or delete it remotely.

7. Security and international processing

Roamback uses iOS protected app storage and local database protections. Your device passcode, device access, and the settings of your backup provider also matter. No storage or transmission method is completely secure, so keep a current backup of memories you want to preserve.

Our hosting and email providers may process website request data or correspondence in countries other than yours. Applicable protections depend on the provider and relevant law. Your journal is not transferred to us as part of ordinary app use.

8. Children

Roamback is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect their personal information through this website or support channels. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us so we can address it. If local law requires a higher minimum age or parental consent, that requirement applies.

9. Changes and contact

We may update this policy as the app or website changes. The date at the top identifies the current version. Material changes will be communicated where required by law.

For privacy questions or requests, email hello@roamback.com.
